Bank of Glen Jean

William McKell built this bank about 1909. He owned the Glen Jean mine and the railroad spur that met the main line at Thurmond. During the coal mine wars, he had an opening made in the front wall near the top of the building. He manned this opening with a machine gun and planned to fire upon the striking miners should they attempt to take over the bank. More info is available on this subject at www.wvculture.org/goldenseal/index.html. These are publications published by the WV Division of Natural Resources."

Wingrove Mine

When I lived there all that was standing was some of the (Wingrove Mine) structure which was associated with the stacks. Also, the shaft opening was still there and probably still is. I think that the Church and store were also gone."
