Ed Dziedzic's father's birth certificate obtained at the Catholic Church in Wysoka, Poland in 1993
"...I visited Wysoka, Poland in May 1993 and was able to tour the house (original thatched roof log home) where he was born as well as the church and town. It was a thrill for me and my older sister Susie who currently lives in Cleveland, Ohio. I took quite a bit of video of the area. We also made contact with and visited with over 50 cousins. I have learned some Polish as an adult (my parents never taught me as a child) and correspond with a number of these cousins. In fact, as I write this, I have been in the process of preparing my Christmas card notes to these cousins in Polish. My father's mother was Katarzyna (Gnojek) Dziedzic. She died Oct. 12, 1963 at age 93. She was the daughter (corka in Polish) of Jana (John) and Marianny (Mary Ann) Gnojek. I do have a couple of pictures of her as well as a Virgin Mary porcelain statue that she always kept in her home. I asked for something of hers to remind me of her from my cousins and they gave me that statue when I visited her grave in 1993. I was told she was a devout Catholic and prayed her Rosary every day. Polish families under Soviet occupation lived a harsh and dirt poor life. It was impossible to know where they were living or even if they were alive. I am attaching a copy of my Dad's birth certificate which I obtained at the Catholic Church in Wysoka, Poland in 1993. It shows his mother's maiden name and parents names also...."

Old Scarbro Theater and Drugstore

Old Scarbro Theater and Drugstore November, 1994. Scarbro Company Store when the old theater and drugstore were still attached. The front of the bldg. that is painted white was the theater (it's unfortunate about the graffiti) and the end of the bldg. that is painted white was the drugstore. I never knew what was on the second level.

Addition: "At the far end of the picture is the Rialto Theatre, down the steps to the street level and around the corner was the White Oak Drug Store operated by Doc Henderson, also under the theatre and beside the drug store was a barber shop. The New River Co. Store had three levels, the lower or basement level was for grocery shopping. On the main level, you shopped for notions, clothing and the butcher shop, and I believe that BEANS Craft was the butcher of my time. On the upper level you could find home furnishings. The near end of the building housed the U.S. Post Office and the Postmaster of my time was Mrs. Arrington. .." Fred Burmer Submitted March 8, 2006
